Voluntary Simplicity & Self Reliance

by Tammy Taylor

Recently I wrote a piece that was published by Mother Earth News about how self reliance and voluntary simplicity equals power.  The advertising moguls would have you believe that you need them to do things for you – that many of those convenience items are just too complicated or time consuming for you to be able to do them for yourself.  Don’t buy into it!  I’ve found that when I practice Voluntary Simplicity and Self Reliance that I feel empowered.  Empowered to do more, and to do for myself better and cheaper than they can and certainly with a greener footprint.   What in particular brought me to this realization?  Read on, dear friends.

Absolutely, I don’t think people quite understand how hard people are trying to manipulate you! But you can say no and opt out of it all. 🙂 Thanks for sharing on the Waste Less Wednesday Blog Hop!

The advertising powers-that-be are truly doing their best to manipulate folks Katy. Of course, that’s their job, their livelihood. But it’s my option to see through all of that and do what works best for ME, not them. ~TMH~

Great post. I enjoyed reading this. I didn’t realize your in Texas. Me too. Only I am in the suburbs. I miss country life. I live it through you and the other bloggers. I’ve used cloth napkins for years and years. This year I am attempting a balcony veggie garden. I’ve never had much success with seeds. But I have cucumbers sprouting. Yea me! Thanks for sharing this post. I always enjoy visiting you. Have a wonderful Friday.

Well Sherry, the phrase “bloom where you’re planted” is always appropriate, no matter where you live. Sounds like you’re doing just that. Kudos on your balcony gardening endeavor – Yea YOU indeed! ~TMH~

What a wonderful article. I hope it inspires many more to start making changes starting with one simple thing. I am happier than ever now that I practice self-reliance and do for myself.

Love this Lois!! Yes, yes, YES!! One simple thing runs into another simple thing, and then another, and then… It’s empowering and so satisfying to learn those skills – and much easier than many people realize. ~TMH~

Yessum – I think we’re purposely led to believe it’s just too difficult or complicated to do some of those things for ourselves Nancy, but I’ve been oh-so-pleasantly surprised to find out it’s so easy. ~TMH~
