Breakfast Biscuits Are A Company-Worthy Breakfast In A FLASH

by Tammy Taylor~

I don’t know about you, but when I’m hosting guests I always stress about what to feed them.  Will I be able to make sure they can eat according to the schedule they’re accustomed to?  How will I know when they’re hungry?  Will I be able to whip up something delicious while not being shackled to the kitchen?  And what will I serve?  What, what, WHAT??!!

If you stress about feeding guests too, I’m about to share one of my favorite breakfast-in-a-flash shortcuts.  I like to have ham & cheese egg biscuits.  My guests call them BOBs (Breakfast-on-a-Biscuit)  The beautiful thing is I can make everything in advance & just assemble & enjoy.

BOB, or Breakfast on a Biscuit - is a quick company-worthy breakfast of scrambled eggs, thinly-sliced ham & cheese on a biscuit. #TaylorMadeHomestead

Only 3-Ingredients For Quick Cake-Mix Cookies!

Did you ever want to make up a  batch of cookies in a flash, but really didn’t want to go through the whole ordeal?  You know, pull out your cook book, look up recipe, pull out all the ingredients, etc?  Well boy do I have exciting news for you: Cake Mix Cookies!  Only 3 ingredients, y’all, mix ’em up, bake ’em up, DONE.  Recently we were invited to a dinner at a family member’s house and I asked what we could bring.  The hostess requested RancherMan’s famous Green Bean Casserole so of course we made that to contribute to the meal.  But I thought it would be a nice touch to bring something sweet that we could graze on as we visited. Maybe finger food that wouldn’t dirty up any additional dishes for our hosts. Enter cake-mix cookies.  Since it’s so simple I don’t need to look up a recipe.  I just mix & bake.  Check it out, y’all

Fresh Garden-Veggie Pico de Gallo in Minutes!

by Tammy Taylor~

*contains affiliate link

RancherMan & I love pico de gallo.  That zesty mix of tomatoes, onion, garlic and jalapenos is one of our favorite ways to enjoy garden veggies.  This year RancherMan even requested that I plant a pico de gallo garden to assure we can enjoy that culinary delight whenever we like.  I was, of course, happy to oblige him!  I always have onions and garlic planted anyway.  Of course I have tomatoes planted every year as well.  And c’mon, there’s never gonna be a garden season when I don’t have copious amounts of jalapenos growing out there.  So I just needed to include cilantro in my planting plan to fulfill his request.  Recently we were invited to a family cookout so we told them we’d bring fresh homemade pico de gallo.  You’re not gonna believe how quickly it all comes together!

Homemade Bacon-Flavored Mayonnaise – BACONNAISE!

by Tammy Taylor~

RancherMan likes to eat tuna sandwiches.  He usually takes the quick route by just opening the tuna can, draining it and placing the meat on a mayonnaise-covered piece of bread.  LOL.  And when I’m making egg salad sandwich spread I use mayonnaise for that as well.  But I don’t typically buy mayonnaise.  I’ve written before about making Garlic-Flavored Mayonnaise and I do still make that flavor from time to time.  But I began experimenting with various flavors, oils & fats when making my mayonnaise.

Although we certainly can’t afford to eat bacon often, I have a couple of families saving their bacon grease for me.  It’s a necessary ingredient in my Buttermilk Biscuits and homemade Sandwich Bread too.  So I very much appreciate their saving their bacon byproduct for me.  But recently when I was making a batch of mayonnaise I wondered…  Hummmm…

I've made our mayonnaise homemade for a long time but recently got to thinking... BACON! Now I almost always make Baconnaise! #TaylorMadeHomestead

How To Make Clover-Blossom Jelly with Recipe

by Tammy Taylor~

We’re just starting our second year of beekeeping this year.  Although we often plant winter rye and clover for early grazing opportunities for our cattle herd, we planted clover heavily in the pen right next to the beehives.  It’s beautiful in full bloom! We’ve kept the cattle off of this piece of land to allow the bees to do their thing with the clover blossoms.  I suspect there’s not a much sweeter delight than home-grown clover honey #amiright?  I can’t wait for our first real honey harvest in July!  But as we were walking through that paddock recently I commented to RancherMan how fragrant those blossoms were.  Wonder if I can make jelly from them?  Hummmm…

We have lots of clover blossoms in the pastures. Why not make Clover-Blossom Jelly with those fragrant blooms? It is delicious! #TaylorMadeHomestead

Fluffy, Delicious, Jalapeno/Cheese Yeast Bread Recipe

by Tammy Taylor~

When we recently traveled to west Texas to visit my aunt, she picked up a couple of loaves of our favorite jalapeno cheese bread for us to enjoy while we were there. I told her that every time we visit & enjoy that delicious bread I get the idea to come home & bake up bread with jalapenos & cheese.  But it’s just not the same because I’m usually making biscuits or flavored beer bread & not a fluffy yeast bread.

So recently when I was baking RancherMan his favorite sandwich bread I made one into a jalapeno cheese bread.  It was as simple as rolling it out, sprinkling chopped previously-frozen jalapenos from the freezer and some grated jalapeno muenster cheese given to us by a very sweet friend before rolling the dough into a loaf. But did it work?

I Use My Standard Fluffy, Delicious, Sandwich Bread Recipe To Make A Spicy Jalapeno-Cheese Bread Version. DELICIOUS and so easy! #TaylorMadeHomestead

Leftover Biscuit Dough? Make Cinnamon Rolls!

by Tammy Taylor~

I tried unsuccessfully for years to make delicious homemade biscuits for RancherMan.  When I say unsuccessfully, I mean they always turned out too dry & crumbly.  Or with not enough flavor.  Or just plain blahhhhh….  But I’ve finally stumbled upon the secret of delicious, moist, flavorful homemade biscuits!  I make them often for RancherMan and sometimes I put jalapenos & cheese in them too!

But recently I was serving him breakfast in bed for his birthday and he requested eggs, bacon, gravy and homemade biscuits.  As I rolled them out I found I had some dough leftover (as I always do!) Usually I’ll cut them into more biscuits and place them on a piece of aluminum foil to cook right alongside the others.  But I wonder if I could make something different with this small amount of leftover biscuit dough.  I wonder if I can sweeten it & make a few cinnamon rolls?  Hummm…

I take the scrap dough from homemade biscuits & make a small pan of cinnamon rolls. They bake right alongside my biscuits! #TaylorMadeHomestead

Planned leftovers: Chicken Tortilla Soup Recipe

by Tammy Taylor~

I’ve written before about how I love the Cook-Once, Eat-Twice method of cooking and of course its close relative the Planned Leftovers method too.  With Cook-Once Eat-Twice cooking you might cook several meatloaves or stuffed peppers so you can freeze it for the same entree later.  With Planned Leftovers you cook much more than you’ll eat at one meal so you can remake the leftovers into something completely new and delicious.  I wrote recently about cooking mucho quantities of pork roast to use for planned leftovers.  But today I’ll share the planned leftovers I enjoyed from a recent Slow Cooker Sticky Chicken I made.

Planned Leftovers: Use leftover chicken, a few dried out corn tortillas, a few cans of veggies to make delicious Chicken Tortilla Soup! #TaylorMadeHomestead
