Fall-Back Friday: Best Homesteading Posts of 2013

by Tammy Taylor~

Whelp, here we are in the last month of the year.  Howzabout this:  Just for fun, I’ll share a series of the “Best-Of” posts from previous years, ending up with the most popular best-of posts for 2016 at the end of the month.  Whaddya say – are you in??  YES!

My little ole blog started in 2013.  It was a tumultuous year for RancherMan & me, I’d just received that diagnosis no one wants to hear: “You Have Cancer”.  Since my handsome RancherMan knew I’d never be able physically to keep up with ranch duties while I was healing he suggested that I start writing a blog.  He encouraged me to write about our lives here, our drive for simple living and self sufficiency, gardening and cooking from scratch.  You know what?  I found I really liked it!  Our readers were so kind and helpful in their comments and I got quite a bit of value out of writing, so I kept it up even after I healed.

Today I’ll share with you the top 10 posts in that first year.  That was the year y’all were most interested in such things as making your own Homemade Yogurt; Taking a BITE out of Your Grocery Budget; making Honeysuckle Jelly and much more.  C’mon, take a load off & enjoy these most popular posts of 2013!

Stay tuned, next week I’ll share the most popular posts of 2014)

I'm sharing the best homesteading posts of 2013. Such things as making honeysuckle jelly, homemade yogurt, grocery budgeting & more! #TaylorMadeHomestead

TGIF y’all!  Finally the weather is starting to change, it’s getting a little cooler in our part of NE Texas and there’s an ever-so-subtle hint of the leaves thinking about changing to their fall-colored splendor.  I don’t know about you, but I look forward to fall.  Oh no, not for the ragweed counts that plague my entire face (lol) but the anticipation of those delightful cooler temps and the beginning of comfort-food menus at the Taylor Household.  Oh yeah, when fall comes around my mind turns to those good ole Southern comfort-food,  favorites like Potato Soup, Black Bean & Beer Chili, and my all-time favorite – Chicken & Dumplings!  And to celebrate Fall-Back Friday I’ll fall back into the archives & bring my Chicken & Dumplings recipe back to the surface for you to enjoy today.  Go on now & give it a try, y’all – you know you wanna!

Fall-Back Friday: Homemade Baked Apple Hand Pies

by Tammy Taylor~

We’ve really been enjoying some unseasonably cool fall-like weather here in NE Texas and I’m LOVING it!  There’s still much to do this time of year, I see my wild plums are starting to ripen on the pasture trees so I’ll be headed out there to harvest them soon – I’m thinking maybe plum jam…  Of course there’s planting a fall garden and preparing for the colder months too, but in the meantime – TGIF y’all!!  To celebrate I’ll share a Fall-Back Friday post with you, where I fall back into the archives and bring back to the surface a post that has proved popular with our readers.  And today’s share is aaaaaall about fall, y’all!  Apple season is almost upon us, why not put those home-canned apples (or even the commercial cans) to good use?

Fall-Back Friday: MYO Cream Of ANYTHING Soup

by Tammy Taylor~

TGIF Y’all!!    It’s been a busy week for RancherMan & me.  We’re nursing one of our cows back to health, she had twins but neither calf made it.  Mama cow’s health was hit hard and we’ve been taking extra care to make sure she’s comfortable and healing.  Thankfully she’s almost back to normal now, the partial paralysis in her back legs is gone and we made sure she warded off any infection.  But we also spent several hours on the tractor mowing pastures – with the wild hog wallows it’s similar to enduring a 6-hour bumper car ride on the tractor!  LOL  And of course the weather has really heated up for most of the country – I think we’re all looking forward to fall!  But we’ve finally made it to Friday.  Woo-hoo!  To celebrate I’ll share a Fall-Back Friday post where I fall back into the archives and bring back to the surface a post that’s proved very popular in the past with our readers. Today I’m sharing how easy it is to make your own Cream-Of WHATEVER soup.  Cream of Chicken?  Yes.  Cream of Celery?  Sure.  Cream of Mushroom?  You bet!  Any variety you like, check it out!

It's so easy to make your own Cream of ANYTHING soup in minutes. Healthier ingredients, lower sodium, no landfill trash. Give it a try! #TaylorMadeHomestead

Fall-Back Friday: Powerfully-Flavored HERB BOMBS!

by Tammy Taylor

Now that summer is in full swing, the garden is growing wonderfully!  I’m harvesting and serving up as much of our fresh garden produce as I can, flavorful steamed dishes, hearty salads and homemade pickles are often on the menu.   But as much as we love steamed zucchini, you can only eat so much of it before you yearn for something more…  I’ve been making Zoodles (zucchini noodles) from our excess garden zucchini & I love this handy-dandy *vegetti device that turns an ordinary zucchini into a low-carb noodle with just the twist of the wrist.  I’m lightly cooking the zoodles using a powerful punch of flavor via these homemade Herb Bombs made with the herbs grown right outside my door.  What are Herb Bombs you say??  Well today to celebrate Fall-Back Friday, I’ll fall back into the archives to bring this post back to the surface & share this beauty with ya.  Oh man you’re gonna love this – check it out!

Fall-Back Friday: Quick & Easy Window Treatment

by Tammy Taylor~

TGIF Y’all!  Today I’ll celebrate finally reaching Friday falling back into the blog archives and bringing back to the surface one of my most popular posts and man-o-man are you gonna love this!  I needed a window treatment that was pretty but offered both privacy & light so I decided to add lace right to the window – it was PERFECT.  And if you don’t want anything flowery you can use something with no pattern such as tulle or maybe some lace with a stripe pattern – whatever works for you.  And here’s the kicker – it’s completely reversible!  Living in an apartment and hate that one window doesn’t offer privacy from your neighbors?  A small piece of lace & some kitchen ingredients – DONE.  When you move out it can all come down like is was never there.  Or how about those long sidelight windows next to front doors these days?  The only option I had when we lived in that house in town was spring rods and sheers – DANG I wish I’d known about this then!  OK I’ve blubbered enough – go, go, GO – you don’t want to miss this!
